7 Spicy "The Love Hypothesis" Fanfics
Before it was a film, or even a book, The Love Hypothesis was a Starwars Fanfiction. Ali Hazelwood translated the electric chemsitry between Rey and Kylo Ren (Ben Solo) to a college setting - unsurprisingly, the internet was a fan.
Now, almost a decade after Ali Hazelwood began writing Head Over Feet on AO3, new writers are returning to her original fanfiction (and her novel) and finding new directions to take Adam and Olive's grumpy x sunshine chemistry.

Her smell is in his nostrils, her thighs press against the inside of his own, and this was heady and harrowing twenty seconds ago, but it's rapidly becoming unbearable. How beautiful she is – it confuses him.
I love the idea that big brained Adam can't quite compute Olive, particularly when from the outside Adam is the more powerful in their relationship.

This sunshiny metaphor is perfect for Olive - it fits her golden retriever personality so well!

This is an epilogue to The Love Hypothesis Chapter 22 – when (spoiler alert) Olive confesses her feelings to Adam in broken Dutch. Expect some SPICE!
Adam was kissing her, really, truly kissing her. His hands were on her waist, hips flush, lips conveying everything he'd just said to her and everything he didn't. That he'd missed her too, that he was also miserable without her. That he couldn't live without her either. And now Olive had never felt so happy.
I really like how the author uses physical intimacy to echo the emotional closeness Adam and Olive have just voiced.

What if Adam kissed Olive first – not the other way around?
The first thing he thinks is that the press of her lips against his is the closest he’s ever felt to heaven.
The second...is that he’s kissing a stranger.
He makes to pull away because fuck, this is by far the most idiotic thing he’s done in his very long history of doing idiotic things, but then he feels slim fingers curl into his shirt and a soft sigh escape the stranger’s throat and wow, he really is that pathetic, isn’t he? Alone for the past decade, and now weak for the briefest semblance of human contact with a faceless co-ed at God knows how late at night. In the hallway of his lab, no less.
This author has created a brilliant imagining of Adam's inner monologue - it strikes a nice balance between nerdy, self-deprecating and dryly funny.

If this is a dream, he's making the most of it.
I'm a fan of Adam's yearning here, it really changes the tone of the initial kiss.

She couldn’t look away. The edge of the desk pushed into her lower back.
“You are a smart-ass.” Against the top of the desk, his hands firmly planted themselves on either side of her.
Her breath caught as his lips hovered over hers.
“And you are driving me abso-fucking-lutely crazy.”
This fanfic has some fabulously punchy writing - I could really imagine this scene in a movie!

Have you been wondering how Olive came to be so messy, fiesty and fabulous? This is Olive's Euro Girl Summer before she heads to Stanford to become an accademic weapon.
This was the summer to end all summers. [Olive and Anh] would be busy with their studies for years to come, so they decided they’d both go out of their comfort zones for their final months of freedom. For Anh, that meant accepting a position on this yacht touring the Mediterranean, Tyrrhenian, and Ionian seas. For Olive, it meant going on a trip around Europe. It was her mom’s dream, after all. She used to talk to Olive about all the places she had always wanted to visit in Europe, starting with Italy. Olive sold almost everything of value she owned to make this happen.
There is spice in this fic... but also backstory. I love how the author weaves in Olive's experience of grief beyond her career ambitions. In the book, losing her mother spurs Olive on to study cancer biomarkers and save lives; here, her mum inspires her to be adventurous.

Malcolm knew damn well Dr. Asshole Carlsen wasn’t coming over to their apartment. He would know. He would know if the Antichrist sat on his couch. [...] All their houseplants would die. There would probably be a faint smell of brimstone for at least three business days.
I really enjoy this friend=as-detective conceit. Also, outside of romance novels, a sunny young PHD student dating a fearsome professor would be really weird to her friends!

I am such a fan of this call-back to The Love Hypothesis' origin as Starwars fanfic - as well as the whole grumpy-nerd-turned-cat-dad thing.
