There’s something magical about seeing a story you loved on the page come alive on screen. I’ve been keeping a close eye on next year’s adaptation slate, and it’s shaping up to be an excellent season for readers and viewers alike. Whether you’ve read the books or simply enjoy a good story, these titles deserve a spot on your watchlist.
Let’s take a look at what’s coming.
Confirmed Adaptations Worth Watching
Hamnet by Maggie O'Farrell
Cinema, 14th December 2025

Maggie O’Farrell’s Hamnet is tender, haunting, and beautifully written. With Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal leading, the film promises the same quiet heartbreak and depth that made the novel unforgettable. Keep tissues close for this one.
The Housemaid by Freida McFadden
Cinema, 19th December 2025

A Christmas release feels like an unusual choice for a psychological thriller, though perhaps that’s what makes it so intriguing. There’s something quietly satisfying about watching something dark while the fairy lights glow in the background. If you haven’t read the book, settle in with the lights low and a blanket tucked close.
People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry
Netflix, 9th January 2026

Emily Henry has become a quiet staple for modern romance readers, and it’s a joy to see her stories finding new life on screen. Even if you haven’t read the book, expect something tender and hopeful, with just enough humour and longing to feel wonderfully human.
Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë
Cinema, 13th February 2026

The trailer looks steamy so far, with Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi teaming up with Emerald Fennell for a bold new take on Wuthering Heights. With Charli XCX on the soundtrack, it promises something wild and fresh on the moors. If you only met Wuthering Heights in a classroom, this might be the perfect reason to see it again with fresh eyes.
Verity by Colleen Hoover
Cinema, 2nd October 2026

Dark, unsettling, and strangely irresistible, Verity is the kind of story that lingers long after the credits roll. Even if Colleen Hoover isn’t usually your thing, this adaptation earns your curiosity. Go in with no expectations, let it twist at its own pace, and see where it leaves you when the lights come up.
Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins
Cinema, 20th November 2026

A prequel to The Hunger Games focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Details are slim for now, but the cast is looking great. Expect political tension, sharp social commentary, and the kind of storytelling that made the series unforgettable.
In Development and Worth Keeping an Eye On
Bridgerton Season 4 — An Offer From a Gentleman by Julia Quinn
Benedict finally gets his turn, and it feels well deserved. This one takes its cues from Cinderella, only with more charm, more mischief, and plenty of Regency sparkle. Expect longing glances, witty exchanges, and enough romance to make even the most practical viewer smile.
The Deal — Off Campus series by Elle Kennedy
A fan favourite from the golden age of New Adult romance, The Deal brings all the campus energy and emotional chaos you’d hope for. If the casting lands right, it could be the kind of comfort watch that sneaks up on you.
The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood
Equal parts science, heart, and humour, this one captures the joy of finding connection in unexpected places. With its clever dialogue and soft, slow-burn romance, it already feels made for the screen.
Do You Need to Reread First?
Probably not. Some of these titles I read so long ago that the details have faded, and a few I’ve yet to open at all. That won’t stop me from watching.
Stories change when they move from page to picture, and that’s part of their charm. It’s easy to get caught up comparing every line and scene, but sometimes it’s better to let go of the checklist and see what the story becomes in another form. You might choose to reread if you want the full experience, or simply enjoy discovering it anew.
Next year is shaping up to be a treat for book lovers. Mark your calendars, gather your reading group, and keep these titles close for the evenings when you want something familiar yet unexpectedly fresh. Some adaptations capture the heart of the book, others wander off in new directions, and a few surprise you entirely. That unpredictability is part of the fun.
I’ll be there with popcorn at the ready, probably analysing the costumes more than necessary. See you at the premiere.
