Love Languages of My Favourite MMC

As a romance author, I spend a lot of time thinking about love. (Kind of obvious huh?) Not just the swoon-worthy moments, but the small, invisible ones, the acts of devotion that show the reader the love between the characters without spelling it out.
One of my favourite ways to explore this in my writing is through the lens of the Five Love Languages:
Physical Touch
Acts of Service
Gifts
Quality Time
Words of Affirmation
Those that know our boys will know that each of my leading men shows love differently. Some are quiet, others bold. Some express themselves through action, others through touch or carefully chosen words. So, let’s take a walk through their hearts, and maybe fall in love with them all over again.
✨ Janus: The Brooding Protector

Primary Love Language: Acts of Service
Secondary: Gifts
Janus, our first Techboy, doesn't need to say “I love you” to mean it. You see it when he pulls your chair out before you sit. When he keeps a spare charger in his car because you always forget yours. When he walks on the outside of the pavement without thinking.
Okay you knew it was coming. Gifts. It’s a bit hard to be a billionaire and not want to lavish gifts on those that you love. I reckon if Jo would have let him, Janus would have made himself penniless gifting every single thing he owned to her. He shows up, even when it’s hard. Especially when it’s hard.
“You don’t need to ask. I already handled it.”
When he does finally sit down beside you, his phone on silent, eyes meeting yours with that steady, unreadable gaze, it’s not just silence, it’s presence. Janus listens. Not to reply, but to understand.
Author’s Note: Writing Janus taught me so much about writing male characters. Making sure that even these outrageously large characters, needed to have a side where the FMC saw him for who he was. He doesn’t perform; he provides. And there’s something incredibly sexy about a man who proves his feelings in the smallest, most consistent ways.
✨ Fabian: The Charmer with Depth
Primary Love Language: Physical Touch
Secondary: Words of Affirmation
At first glance, Fabian seems like the kind of man who gets by on good looks and charm. And okay, he does use both. But beneath the flirtatious exterior is a deeply intuitive man who reads people’s emotions like sheet music. And when Fabian loves, he uses everything, his hands, his words, his eyes, and well maybe something else...
Touch is his first language. Not just sexual, though yes, there’s plenty of that. But also the brush of fingers down a back during a quiet moment. The way he pulls you in for a hug that lasts three seconds longer than it needs to. A thumb grazing your cheek when you look like you’re holding back tears.
“Let me hold you. Just for a minute. Or an hour. Or until you believe what I already know, that you’re enough.”
He’s also a talker. He doesn’t let a moment pass without letting you know exactly how he feels. But his words never feel empty, they’re carefully chosen, rooted in observation, meant to uplift, seduce, and sometimes heal.
Author’s Note: Fabian was such a joy to write because he lets love live on the surface. He’s not afraid of being vulnerable or affectionate. And when those traits meet depth and sincerity, you get a man who can undo you with a whisper or a touch.
✨ Dan: The Loyal Best Friend
Primary Love Language: Quality Time
Secondary: Acts of Service
Dan is the kind of man who won't rush you. He’s comfortable in silence, happy to spend hours beside you without needing to speak, because simply being there is enough.
He remembers the little things: the way you take your tea, the movie that always makes you cry, that you hate being interrupted mid-sentence. He knows, and he honours it. That’s love to Dan, being seen, without fanfare.
“You talk, I’ll listen. Or we can just sit here. Either way, I’m not going anywhere.”
He also shows love through action, not grand gestures, but thoughtful ones. When your car breaks down, he’s already halfway there. When you’re swamped, he brings dinner without asking what you want, because he knows.
Author’s Note: Dan reminds us that the most extraordinary kind of love often looks like friendship. He doesn't sweep you off your feet, he keeps you grounded. And there’s something breathtaking in the way he makes people feel safe just by staying close.
✨ Alex: The Heart-on-His-Sleeve Hero
Primary Love Language: Words of Affirmation
Secondary: Gifts
Alex is expressive. If he feels it, you’ll hear it. He’s the one who texts “thinking of you” on a random Tuesday. He’ll write love notes on napkins, whisper encouragements when you’re doubting yourself, and celebrate even the smallest of your wins.
But he also has a quiet streak of sentimentality. Gifts are his way of freezing moments in time, tangible evidence of memories he wants you to carry with you. Maybe it’s a necklace he found in a tucked-away shop, or a novel with your name scribbled in the cover. The message is always the same:
“This made me think of you. Of how you look when you laugh. Of that day we danced in the kitchen.”
Author’s Note: Alex was inspired by the kind of people who are relentlessly present in their relationships. He’s emotional, he’s all in, and he believes that love isn’t just a feeling, it’s something you say out loud, again and again.

✨ Des: The Unexpected Romantic
Primary Love Language: Gifts
Secondary: Physical Touch
Des might seem like the least likely romantic in the group. He’s shy, and quite reserved at first, but when he falls, he falls hard, and he shows it in unexpected, heart-melting ways. I think this is why Des and Alex work so well. He’s the guy who brings you a new notebook when he sees your old one is full. Who saves a seashell from a beach walk because it reminded him of your laugh. His gifts are deeply personal, always paired with a shrug and a “thought you might like this.”
“It’s nothing big. Just… made me think of you.”
When he touches you, it’s meaningful. A hand at the small of your back when no one’s watching. A thumb brushing your knuckles. And when he finally kisses you, it’s not tentative, it’s electric.
Author’s Note: Des surprised me. He wasn’t supposed to be so tender. But the more I wrote him, the more I realized that romance isn’t about being overt, it’s about intention. And Des? Every move he makes is intentional.
✨ Adam: The Stoic Softie
Primary Love Language: Quality Time
Secondary: Physical Touch
Adam has that magnetic energy, the kind that pulls people toward him. But he doesn’t spread himself thin. When he loves, he focuses in. One person, one story, one connection. He gives you his full attention and makes you feel like the most important person in the room.
He’ll take you on long walks, remember your dreams, and stay up all night just to hear about your day. And his touch? It's always gentle but grounding, forehead kisses, hands on your waist, fingers tracing circles on your skin.
“Stay. Just a little longer. We don’t have to talk. I just want to be here.”
Author’s Note: Adam was the kind of character who surprised me with his depth. On the surface, he seems easy going, even playful. But his love runs deep, and he’s not afraid of getting emotionally messy if it means truly connecting.
✨ Aiden: The Golden Boy Gone Deep
Primary Love Language: Acts of Service
Secondary: Words of Affirmation
Aiden is the definition of “I’ll fix it.” He might not say much, but when you’re sick, your medicine is already on the counter. When your plans fall apart, he’s quietly rearranged the day so it still works.
He believes in doing, not saying. But when he does open his mouth to express how he feels, watch out. His words are precise, powerful, and rare enough that when he says “I love you,” it feels like a vow.
“I don’t say it often. Doesn’t mean I don’t feel it every damn day.”
Author’s Note: Adam’s journey was about learning to trust emotion, not just logic. His love is solid, almost sacred. It’s not loud, but it’s steady, like an anchor.
💌 Final Thoughts
Love isn’t one-size-fits-all. Each of these men loves in their own way, and that’s what makes writing them (and reading them!) so compelling. Whether it’s Fabian’s intense gaze or Dan’s quiet loyalty, every love language brings a different flavour of romance to the page.
So tell me…
