Hi book lovers! Eve here, I'm just back from my recent summer vacation to Italy and, besides eating so much pizza and drinking Italian wine, I did a lot of reading. I discovered thats summer reading needs a lot more accesories than just a warm and cosy blanket that I basically live in in the winter.

So whether you're heading to the beach, jetting off on holiday, or just soaking up rays in your garden, having the right summer reading accessories can elevate your entire experience.

So grab your iced coffee, and let’s dive into the best accessories to keep you reading in style this summer!

1. A Gorgeous Book Sleeve (to Keep Your Pages Perfect)

Ever tossed a book into your bag and come back to dog-eared pages or mysterious smudges? Enter the book sleeve - a padded, pretty pouch that protects your read wherever you go. It also just makes me feel so much more sophisticated, but thats just for me.

💡 Eve's Tip: Look for one with a waterproof lining if you're poolside or beach-bound. Etsy is full of handmade options in every design from floral to fantasy.

2. A Clip-On Reading Light for Late Summer Nights

There's nothing worse than finding your perfect reading spot… and losing the light. A portable, USB-rechargeable book light lets you keep turning pages well into those warm, dusky evenings.

✅ Bonus: Choose one with a warm light setting to be gentle on your eyes.

3. E-Reader with a Glare-Free Screen (Your Beach Bag MVP)

If you're a fast reader like me, an e-reader is a game-changer. Light, slim, and able to carry a whole library - what’s not to love?

Make sure yours has:

✔️ Waterproofing

✔️ Adjustable brightness

✔️ No glare in sunlight

📚 Kindle Paperwhite or Kobo Clara 2E are both excellent options.

Straw bag with sunglasses, sunscreen, lip gloss, and a flower-shaped item on a white textile. Book titled "God Hates Us All" in view.

4. A Stylish Tote Bag That Actually Fits Your Books

Let’s be honest - half the fun of summer reading is packing your bag with snacks, SPF, and at least three books you probably won’t finish.

Get a tote that’s cute but practical:

  • Reinforced straps

  • Interior pockets

  • Bonus points for a literary quote design!

5. A Page Holder Clip or Thumb Ring (for One-Handed Reading!)

Okay I might be a bit late to the party but I only discovered these existed this year!

If you’ve ever tried to hold a paperback open with one hand while sipping a drink or lounging awkwardly in a hammock… you need one of these. They slip over your thumb and keep the pages open—genius!

6. A Foldable, Sand-Resistant Picnic Blanket

Person on red checkered blanket reads a book, holding a soda. Cameras and notebooks scattered around. Sunlit outdoor setting.

Planning to stretch out on the grass or sand with your latest read? A foldable blanket that resists heat and sand is essential. Many come with waterproof undersides and carry straps—super easy to transport.

You can now also buy mini portable back rests on amazon, so that you can read in style without sacrificing your back for the next week - sorry do I sound too old now...

7. Sunglasses with Readers Built In (Yes, Really)

These are a must-have for any bookworm who needs reading glasses. No more juggling between sunnies and specs—reader sunglasses come in all sorts of cute styles now!

8. A Cute Bookmark That Sparks Joy

Let’s not forget the finishing touch. Whether it's magnetic, metal, or tasselled, your summer bookmark should feel like a mini celebration every time you pick up your book.

🧡 My current fave? A pressed-flower resin bookmark I picked up at a craft market.
